Plan Summary
Sum up the career plan as if to an outsider who knows
nothing about you. Try to make it as brief and clear as
possible. The tone should be persuasive, telling us why this
is going to work. In no event should the Plan Summary be
longer than a page. It can be as simple as a sentence.
You can make it impersonal by using the third person such
as "The Artist intends to . . ." Or, you can make it more
personal as we’ve done in the example below:
"I’m a visual artist working in two mediums: oil paint and
metal. It’s my intent to raise enough money over the next six
months to cast three ten foot bronze sculptures. During the
subsequent four months, I plan to work on the sculptures which
will be part of a solo exhibition of 10 paintings, seven of
which I will be painting this year."
It doesn’t matter that you’ve never had an art show before,
or that you have no idea how you’ll raise the money. That’s
what the rest of the plan is for, to find the means to
accomplish the goals.
